Meet the Team
Alastair Field BVSc (Hons) Pg Cert VPS Cert AVP (EM) MRCVS
Alastair qualified from Bristol University in 2004 with honours. He then began work in a mixed practice focusing primarily on equine work. Following 12 years he decided to set up an equine only practice based in Blakedown alongside colleagues from his previous practice. He has a particular interest in Equine Internal Medicine and holds a certificate in Equine Internal Medicine which he received in 2018. Alastair enjoys spending time with his young family and is a very enthusiastic amateur gardener!
Daniel James Cooper BVSc MRCVS
Dan graduated from Liverpool University in 2015. He was awarded the Derek Knottenbelt Prize for Equine Medicine, and the AnimalCare Award for his “contribution to vet school life alongside outstanding academic achievement”. Dan has completed a certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice, also with the University of Liverpool, and hopes to be studying for some further examinations and certificates in the next few years when time allows!
For the first 9 months following graduation he worked in a mixed equine and small animal practice in Worcestershire before becoming part of the original team at Field Equine Vets when it opened in March 2016. He felt very honoured and thrilled to be asked to commit to the practice further and join into partnership with Alastair in 2019.
Dan enjoys all aspects of first opinion practice with interests in dentistry, medicine, and ophthalmology. He feels very fortunate to do what he does and loves interacting with clients, their horses and working with all the staff at the practice.
Outside of work Dan enjoys spending time at home with his wife Liv and all their pets (2 dogs, 4 cats, 2 rabbits and horse Token). Dan also enjoys watching cricket and plays for Pedmore C.C. in the local Worcestershire league.
Sarah Cook RVN Cert AVN Imaging and Rehabilitation
Prior to joining the veterinary profession Sarah was a competition groom within top dressage and showjumping yards as both a home and travel groom before moving into a local equine veterinary clinic for 6 years as a groom/ vet assistant. Sarah moved to a referral hospital as a nursing assistant in 2018 and went on to complete her nursing qualification at Hartpury university in 2020, upon qualification Sarah soon travelled up to become head deputy nurse, completing all types of nursing activities to include surgical, imaging and inpatient care. In 2023 Sarah went back to education again returning to Hartpury university to obtain an advanced nursing certification in imaging and rehabilitation. She was one of the first cohorts to complete this new qualification for Equine nurses.
Sarah Joined Field in February 2024 when the new water treadmill was installed and is enjoying bringing research based theories to each individual horses program.
Outside of work Sarah enjoys riding her horse Pete, walking her dog Rolo and often can be found dancing around in a Zumba class or in a swimming pool enjoying a few lengths.
Jo Gwynne BVMedSci (Hons) BVM BVS (Hons) Cert AVP (Equine) MRCVS
Jo graduated from Nottingham University in 2012, initially working in mixed equine and small animal practice. Jo then moved into equine only work at local ambulatory and clinic-based practices.
Jo’s further professional qualifications include a Certificate in Advanced Equine Practice and being an FEI Permitted Treating Vet.
Jo enjoys the variety of being a general practitioner, treating a range of conditions in all horses and ponies and has a particular added interest in lameness and poor performance work. Jo enjoys providing emergency care as part of being a vet as well as covering equestrian events supporting the sport.
Outside of work Jo is busy with her son George, black Labrador Benny and riding as much as possible.
Katy Carrington – Clinic assistant and water treadmill assistant
Katy worked at a local riding school for 8 years before joining Field Equine Vets in June 2024 as a clinic and water treadmill assistant.
Katy also manages the stock across the practice, making sure all the vets’ cars are equipped for their day.
Outside of work Katy enjoys spending time with her horse Pie and cat Crumb.
